A Cybersecurity Engineer is responsible for protecting an organization’s systems, networks, and data from cyber threats. They design, implement, and maintain security measures, monitor for vulnerabilities, and respond to incidents to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information assets.
For All Levels (Juniors → Seniors)
Monitor network and systems for security threats and vulnerabilities.
Implement and maintain security tools such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and antivirus solutions.
Conduct risk assessments and vulnerability scans.
Respond to security incidents and perform root cause analysis.
Ensure compliance with security policies, standards, and regulations.
Additional Responsibilities by Level:
Junior Level:
Assist in monitoring security alerts and reporting suspicious activity.
Support patch management and system hardening tasks.
Learn cybersecurity best practices under guidance.
Mid-Level:
Configure, manage, and optimize security tools and technologies.
Conduct penetration testing and security assessments.
Develop and implement security policies and procedures.
Senior Level:
Design and lead organization-wide cybersecurity strategies.
Lead incident response, forensic investigations, and threat analysis.
Mentor junior staff and coordinate cybersecurity awareness training.
Advise management on risk mitigation, regulatory compliance, and emerging threats.
For All Levels (Core Skills):
Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
Knowledge of network protocols, firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems.
Understanding of cybersecurity frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001, CIS Controls).
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Ability to work under pressure and manage security incidents effectively.
Experience by Level:
Junior Level: 0–2 years in cybersecurity, network security, or IT support.
Mid-Level: 2–5 years in security operations, incident response, or penetration testing.
Senior Level: 5+ years in cybersecurity, with experience leading teams or security projects.
Preferred (Especially for Senior):
Certifications such as CISSP, CEH, CISM, or CompTIA Security+.
Experience with SIEM tools (Splunk, ArcSight, QRadar, etc.).
Knowledge of cloud security (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Familiarity with regulatory compliance (GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS).
