A Shuttering Carpenter is responsible for constructing and assembling formwork or molds used to hold wet concrete in place until it sets into the desired shape. They play a critical role in structural concrete works for buildings, bridges, and other civil engineering projects, ensuring precision, safety, and quality at every stage of construction.
Read and interpret blueprints, formwork drawings, and structural layouts.
Measure, cut, shape, and assemble timber, plywood, or metal formwork to the required dimensions.
Install and align formwork for columns, beams, slabs, and foundations.
Support and brace formwork to maintain stability during concrete pouring.
Dismantle shuttering safely after concrete curing without damaging the structure.
Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in proper condition.
Cooperate with steel fixers, masons, and site supervisors for smooth workflow.
Follow all safety procedures and use protective gear as per site regulations.
Minimum O/L or equivalent education.
NVQ or Technical Certificate in Carpentry, Shuttering, or Construction preferred.
Minimum 2–3 years of experience in formwork or concrete structure projects.
Ability to read and understand technical drawings accurately.
Strong knowledge of formwork systems and construction techniques.
Skilled in the use of hand and power tools.
Good understanding of safety measures and site protocols.
Physically fit with good hand–eye coordination.
Team-oriented, punctual, and able to meet deadlines.
