Job Role

A Shuttering Carpenter is responsible for constructing and assembling formwork or molds used to hold wet concrete in place until it sets into the desired shape. They play a critical role in structural concrete works for buildings, bridges, and other civil engineering projects, ensuring precision, safety, and quality at every stage of construction.

Key Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, formwork drawings, and structural layouts.

• Measure, cut, shape, and assemble timber, plywood, or metal formwork to the required dimensions.

• Install and align formwork for columns, beams, slabs, and foundations.

• Support and brace formwork to maintain stability during concrete pouring.

• Dismantle shuttering safely after concrete curing without damaging the structure.

• Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in proper condition.

• Cooperate with steel fixers, masons, and site supervisors for smooth workflow.

• Follow all safety procedures and use protective gear as per site regulations.

Qualifications

• Minimum O/L or equivalent education.

• NVQ or Technical Certificate in Carpentry, Shuttering, or Construction preferred.

• Minimum 2–3 years of experience in formwork or concrete structure projects.

• Ability to read and understand technical drawings accurately.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of formwork systems and construction techniques.

• Skilled in the use of hand and power tools.

• Good understanding of safety measures and site protocols.

• Physically fit with good hand–eye coordination.

• Team-oriented, punctual, and able to meet deadlines.
