Job Role: Technician – HV 

An HV Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of high-voltage electrical systems and equipment. These systems are typically used for power transmission, distribution networks, and industrial power systems. The role ensures the safe and efficient operation of high-voltage equipment, complying with industry safety standards and regulations.

Responsibilities:

• Install, maintain, and repair high-voltage equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, busbars, and cables.

• Conduct high-voltage system inspections, identifying and troubleshooting faults in the equipment and wiring.

• Test the functionality of high-voltage systems using tools such as insulation resistance testers, HV test sets, and voltage detectors.

• Perform routine maintenance on electrical equipment, ensuring minimal downtime and preventing system failure.

• Respond to emergency breakdowns and outages, diagnosing and repairing faults to restore power quickly.

• Perform high-voltage switching operations, following established procedures to isolate or energize electrical circuits.

• Collaborate with electrical engineers and other technicians during installation, upgrades, and system tests.

• Ensure that all work complies with national and local electrical safety regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, IEC).

• Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, tests, and repairs, documenting any issues or recommendations.

• Provide technical support and advice to other departments or clients as needed.

• Follow strict safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and lockout/tagout (LOTO) practices.

• Assist in the design, planning, and commissioning of new high-voltage systems or upgrades to existing systems.

Requirements:

• Proven experience as an HV Technician or in a similar high-voltage electrical role (typically 3-5 years).

• Strong understanding of high-voltage electrical systems and equipment (e.g., transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear).

• Knowledge of testing and diagnostic equipment used for high-voltage systems.

• Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals.

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, particularly in high-voltage environments.

• Excellent understanding of electrical safety practices, including lockout/tagout procedures and live-line working.

• Ability to work in high-risk environments and follow all safety protocols.

• Good communication skills for interacting with clients, engineers, and other team members.

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or diploma in electrical engineering or a related field is required.

• Certification or training in high-voltage safety and operations (e.g., HV switching, PPE certification) is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with power transmission or distribution networks, industrial plants, or utility companies.

• Familiarity with SCADA systems or other automation technologies for monitoring HV systems.

• High-voltage equipment manufacturer training (e.g., ABB, Siemens, Schneider Electric).

• Knowledge of power quality analysis and fault detection methods.

Working Conditions:

• Location: Industrial sites, power stations, substations, or utility networks.

• Hours: Full-time; may involve rotating shifts, on-call duties, or emergency response during outages.

• Environment: The role involves working with high-voltage systems, often in challenging environments such as outdoor substations, confined spaces, and heights. Safety protocols must be strictly followed at all times.

• Contract period: 2 years

• Food: SR 300 food allowance or provided by the company.

• Working hours: 8 hours a day, 48 hours per week.
