A Technician III – AGL is a senior-level technical professional responsible for the maintenance, repair, and inspection of Airfield Ground Lighting systems at airports. This includes lighting for runways, taxiways, aprons, and other critical visual navigation aids to ensure safe aircraft operations, especially during low visibility conditions.
Maintenance & Repair: Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on airfield lighting systems including runway edge lights, threshold lights, approach lighting, PAPI (Precision Approach Path Indicators), taxiway guidance signs, and control systems.
Inspection & Testing: Conduct regular inspections of AGL components for functionality, alignment, and compliance with aviation safety standards (e.g., ICAO, FAA). Use testing instruments to verify electrical circuits and lighting output.
Fault Diagnosis: Identify and troubleshoot faults in AGL systems including cabling, isolating transformers, CCRs (Constant Current Regulators), and control panels.
System Upgrades: Assist in the installation and commissioning of new or upgraded AGL infrastructure, including LED systems and remote monitoring tools.
Coordination: Coordinate with airport operations, air traffic control (ATC), and safety officers to schedule maintenance with minimal disruption to airfield operations.
Documentation: Maintain detailed logs of work performed, issues found, and corrective actions taken. Report discrepancies and potential hazards.
Compliance: Ensure all work complies with international aviation safety standards and airport authority regulations.
Emergency Response: Respond promptly to lighting system failures or faults, particularly during aircraft movements or adverse weather conditions.
Mentoring & Supervision: Support junior technicians and contractors on-site by providing guidance and ensuring safe work practices.
Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical or airport lighting maintenance, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory technician role.
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of AGL systems, CCRs, series lighting circuits, and airport safety protocols.
Education: Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or related field.
Certifications: AGL-specific training or certifications (e.g., ICAO Annex 14 compliance, airfield maintenance certification) preferred.
Skills:
Proficient with electrical diagnostic tools (multimeters, insulation testers, etc.)
Knowledge of control systems (SCADA/BMS) used in airfield lighting
Ability to read technical drawings and wiring diagrams
Health & Safety: Knowledge of airside safety regulations, PPE use, and LOTO procedures.
Physical Ability: Capable of working outdoors in various weather conditions, at night, and on rotational shifts.
Licensing: Airside driving permit and electrical license (if required by local authorities).
Environment: Outdoor, airside operations in both daytime and nighttime settings; may involve working under pressure during emergencies.
Shifts: Rotational or shift-based work including weekends and holidays.
Risk Level: High – exposure to live circuits, moving aircraft, and working near active runways/taxiways.
Contract period: 2 years
Food: SR 300 food allowance or provided by the company.
Transportation: Provided by the company.
Accommodation: Provided by the company.
Working hours: 8 hours a day, 48 hours per week.
Overtime: As per KSA government law.
Vacation: 21 days per year.
Medical facilities: Provided as per company policy.
Air passage: One-way free ticket after completing the contract.
Probation period: 3 months (as per KSA law).
